The Thirtyeights and Ninth Session

with 2 comments

Double session today, filling in more scales. Forgot to ask if Horiken ever gets bored with scales? I nodded off occasionally during the session, which was kind of weird! Sunday will see the final couple of sessions this time around, which is good, as I am tired, in pain and itchy!

The Thirtyfourth Session

After a two hour session on a rainy, and slightly miserable, day in Yokohama. We experienced a minor aftershock during the session, which was kind of weird! Anyway, all went well and things are starting to take shape. At one point Horiken went over part of the area he tattoed the day before; painfull!!!

Horiken is back in Yokohama for a few weeks and we got started today with a double session, shading the head of the dragon.

Shading the scales on my left side. We got a lot of work done today!

The Thirtyfirst Session

Horiken has gone back to the US, so this was the last session in 2010. We managed to cram ten sessions into two busy weeks. The frame ( Gaku ) is almost complete and Horiken also did a lot of shading around my legs and buttocks, using both tebori and machine. My next sessions have been scheduled for March next year, so looking forward to that.

Shading the dragons head by machine.

Machine work.

Making progress faster with the machine.

Birds eye view.

Concentration...

This is serious stuff...

Study of an artist at work.

Fresh of the table after a four hour session.

Just visited the "Art of Tattooist 2010 " exhibition in Yokohama, Japan. Unfortunately, we were not able to go to the opening party on Thursday, so here are a few images from Sunday afternoon. There are 50 artists exhibiting, including Yokohama Horiken.

Beautiful work by Jeff Gogue, Shige and Horitomo.

Tanzaku by the exhibiting artists.

Here we go again…

Horiken is back in Japan. I have been looking forward to getting this project started again and we have set up a number of appointments over the coming weeks.

Working at a friends studio in Yokohama. Shading on my left side.

Inserting ink.

The result close up. Really exciting to see how the shading is adding depth to the tattoo.

Intermission

Horiken has closed his studio in Yokohama and has relocated to the US. He is now working at State of Grace in San Jose, California. So until after my next scheduled appointment in November, I will take time out and give this blog a rest. Matane!
